LONDON, July 13 (mathaba) -- In Belfast, youths set a police car alight with petrol bombs and a gunman fired five shots at it. There was sporadic violence in parts of Belfast, Derry, Lurgan and Armagh city.
Assistant Chief Constable Alistair Finlay said overnight violence in nationalist areas of Northern Ireland after July 12 parades was "totally unacceptable" and it was "a very challenging time for policing."
Seventy baton rounds were fired by police and a total of 55 officers were injured over the two nights of violence.
The riot in Northern Ireland started on Sunday night when nationalists attacked ahead of the traditional July 12 Protestant Orange march in Belfast.
